Filled up at Costco – in the food section!
Just returned from a weekend trip to the Bay Area. I filled up before the trip with WVO but didn’t have any extra filtered oil to take along. (My winter filtering has been very slow.) I sent out a few emails asking folks for a fill up in Sonoma, SF or the South Bay, but to no avail.
Diesel was $2.59 at most stations in the South Bay. So, for the first time, I decided to try out some new vegetable oil. I went to Costco where 100% soybean oil was $11.99 for a 5 gallon “cubie”. At $2.40/gallon, this was a good deal, so I bought 25 gallons. The car obviously loved it. I drove the 200 miles home and the engine ran as smooth as silk.
Though my intention is to use recycled, waste veg oil, most of the time, this was a good alternative to buying petro-diesel. I still got the satisfaction of having done less damage to the environment and withheld my dollars from the petro/war machine.
I think I’ll stock up on 100 or so gallons of the new stuff just to have on-hand for those times my filtered wvo supply runs low.
