1983 Mercedes 300SD Single-Tank Conversion

Next, we connected the fuel line to the IN side of the Davco. This is a new section of fuel line purchased at the local auto parts store.

We just left enough length to go back a couple of feet from the Davco.

Now we connect the coolant line. We used red coolant hose. We heard it is a better quality (and it shows up really well in our photos!)

Leave lots of length so that you can reach the other side of the car where the line will be T'd into the coolant line there.

Now we have to drain the coolant from the system. Simply turn the screw on the bottom of the radiator.

NOTE: Make sure you have a container ready to catch the antifreeze as it comes out.

Once it is drained, we were ready to splice in the new coolant lines into the system. Below, we cut the coolant line on the right side of the engine compartment. A serated knife works well for this.

A bit more coolant dripped out into our waiting tub.

Then, using a T we connected the new red hose to the cut we just made. Of course, hose clamps are used every time we connect any hose in this entire process.

The finished connection.

Next, we run another red hose from the other side of the Davco, back to the area behind the car's standard (crankcase) oil filter.

Next, we disconnect the coolant line where it connects to the engine block. For reference, the car's oil filter is in the upper right corner.

Now, we cut that coolant line so that we can T into it with the new red hose.

Now, this is what we have. the red line is from the Davco and the black hose is the existing coolant line. We also have the small twisty piece that connects the coolant line to the engine.

Next, a T fitting connects the three separate hoses to each other. Then, the twisty piece is reconnected to the engine. This was the most challenging step for us due to the cramped space to work.

Notice how we ran the red coolant line under the fuel lines and behind the oil filter. We wanted to keep it out of the way.

Next, we will divert the fuel through the Davco and finish the 12 volt heater connection.
